The Weihnachtsmarkt is simply marvellous. It is lights against the darkness and warmth against the cold. It is the smell of sausages and warm wine, of roasting sugar and almonds. It is the promise of Christmas and the joy of good food. It's an escape from modern chaos into a world of wooden toys, cakes like Oma used to make, and a bit of good old fashioned Gemütlichkeit.
